May is National Mental Health Awareness Month
Like so many Americans, I’ve struggled with my mental health since childhood. Reading was my safe place. I loved characters who experienced hardships and overcame them because, through their experience, I could see a path forward for myself.
I wrote The Written Adventure of Nella Lace as a path forward for one child, but Nella has exceeded my expectations a hundredfold! Now, with your help, she has the opportunity to go farther and help more children than ever before.
For Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ve partnered with dozens of other authors to bring our books to kids who need them through Book An Author. Your donation helps local and national non-profits get the books they need to support children’s mental health.

The Written Adventure of Nella Lace teaches kids how to build connections. While the book models letter writing, at her core, Nella is actually modeling how to think about expressing ourselves in a meaningful way. Like all skills, meaningful communication must be modeled and practiced…and through this practice, deeper connections are formed.
